Canouan

Our home port — Sandy Lane Marina, an empty Pink Sand Beach, and the cleanest jumping-off point in the Grenadines.

Best time to sail

December through July (settled trades). January–April is peak; June–July is quieter and equally good. We do not operate August–October (hurricane season).

Canouan sits at the geographic centre of the Grenadines — a small island, three miles long, with the most sheltered marina in the chain at Sandy Lane. We base the fleet here because every other island worth sailing to is within twenty nautical miles: Mustique, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Union Island, all reachable as half- or full-day sails. Bequia is a longer reach but a comfortable day. The trades are constant from December through July; the anchorages are quiet; the marina is one of the best in the Caribbean.

From Canouan, charters open one of two ways: a private transfer from Argyle (St. Vincent) by road and ferry, or a direct flight into Canouan's tiny airstrip and a five-minute drive to the marina. We coordinate either based on your route. Boarding day is unhurried — the captain's briefing happens over coffee in the cockpit, the chef provisions through the morning, and the yacht is at anchor off the leeward coast by lunch on day one.

The island itself is small and quiet. The Sandy Lane Marina has a dive shop, the customs office, and Romance — the marina restaurant. The east coast holds the Pink Sand Beach (long, empty, exposed) and the Mandarin Oriental's Patrick's Bar for a sunset cocktail. Most of Canouan is undeveloped, which is the point: when guests want a private day on the island they get one.

Anchorages

Sandy Lane Marina

The fleet's home dock — flat water, wide berths, fuel and customs at the end of the pier. Most charters start and end here.

Charlestown Bay

Wide leeward anchorage on the west coast — the local town, ferry dock, and the easiest access to Canouan's interior. Mooring balls available.

Rameau Bay

Quiet north-coast cove with a coral reef just offshore. Best snorkelling on Canouan and a popular morning anchor before the run to Mustique.

Pink Sand Beach

East-coast anchorage on settled days — long stretch of pink-tinged sand, no development, no road access. Lunch on deck and a swim ashore.

Ashore

The Mandarin Oriental

On the south end of the island. Patrick's Bar is open to non-guests for sunset; we book a table on request and run guests up by tender.

Shell Beach

Walking distance from Sandy Lane — quiet local beach with a small shack for fish and beer at lunch. Best on a non-charter day before boarding.

Romance Restaurant

The marina restaurant. Open-air, simple Caribbean menu, and the easiest dinner ashore on the island for crew and guests after a long charter day.
