Sailing with children is, on most cruising grounds, a question of compromise — long passages, rough water, a lot of managing. The Grenadines are the exception. The islands sit close together, so passages are short. The reefs and islands keep the water flat and protected. And the rhythm of a charter here — anchor, swim, snorkel, lunch, short sail, anchor again — is almost exactly the rhythm a family wants anyway.

On a crewed charter the part that exhausts parents is simply removed. You are not provisioning, cooking, navigating, or cleaning. The chef cooks three meals a day and accommodates younger guests' tastes without fuss. The captain handles the boat. You get to be on holiday with your children rather than running a holiday for them.

There is something in it for every age. Younger children get the swim ladder, the snorkelling gear sized down, the turtles in the seagrass at the Tobago Cays, the beach at Saltwhistle Bay. Teenagers get the paddleboards, the chance to take the helm, the kitesurfing off Union Island. Parents get the deck, the quiet anchorage, and a chef. Grandparents, on a multi-generation week, get the comfort of the flagship and a pace that suits them.

Most family groups take a week aboard — the yacht as a floating base, a new island each day. Families staying ashore on Canouan or Mustique often add a single day charter for one big day on the water. Both work; we will help you choose.

Highlights of this charter

Short, calm passages

The islands are close together — the longest sail on a typical week is under twenty nautical miles, most far less. Protected water inside the reef-and-island chain keeps the seas flat. Easy on younger guests and on anyone prone to seasickness.

Swimming & snorkelling daily

The swim ladder goes out at every anchorage. Snorkelling gear sized for adults and children, paddleboards aboard, sea turtles in the seagrass at the Tobago Cays, the sand-spit beach at Mayreau's Saltwhistle Bay.

A chef aboard

Three meals a day prepared on the yacht, with younger guests' preferences accommodated without fuss. No provisioning, no cooking, no washing up — the part of a family holiday that usually still falls on parents is simply gone.

Something for every age

Turtles and beaches for younger children, paddleboards and the helm for teenagers, the deck and a quiet anchorage for parents, the flagship's comfort for grandparents on a multi-generation week.

Safe by design

Children's life jackets aboard, a captain whose job is the navigation and the reef-watching, and a cruising ground that is forgiving by nature. The risks of a family sailing holiday are the crew's responsibility, not yours.

A yacht sized to your party

SISU (37 ft) for a couple with one or two children; Flying Wing (75 ft, three cabins) for a larger family; Cap II (77 ft, four en-suite cabins, air-conditioned) for a big group or a multi-generation week.

Which yacht for a family

SISU suits a small family of three or four. Flying Wing's three guest cabins carry a family of six to eight comfortably. Cap II's four en-suite cabins and full air-conditioning are built for ten — the choice for a multi-generation week. We advise honestly based on ages and numbers.

When to come

December through July. School holidays — Christmas, February half-term, Easter, summer — fall within the season and book out early. Term-time weeks and the May–July shoulder are quieter and easier to secure. Plan holiday weeks well ahead.

Getting here

Fly directly into Canouan's airstrip via Barbados, St. Lucia, or St. Vincent — five minutes from the marina, which is far easier with children than a long transfer. We coordinate it once your dates are set.

All-inclusive

The rate covers the yacht, the crew, the chef, fuel, fees, customs, and full provisioning — three meals a day for everyone aboard. Restaurant nights ashore are arranged on request. No surprise extras.

Before you enquire

Is the Grenadines good for a family sailing holiday?

It is one of the best cruising grounds in the world for families. The islands are close together so passages are short, the reefs and islands keep the water flat and protected, and the natural rhythm of a charter here — anchor, swim, snorkel, short sail — is the rhythm families want anyway. On a crewed charter the exhausting parts are handled by the crew.

Can young children come on a crewed charter?

Yes. Our yachts carry children's life jackets and snorkelling gear sized down, and the chef accommodates younger guests' preferences without fuss. The short, calm passages suit younger children and anyone prone to seasickness. The captain handles the navigation and reef-watching — the safety responsibilities are the crew's, not the parents'.

Which yacht is best for a family?

SISU (37 ft) suits a couple with one or two children. Flying Wing (75 ft, three guest cabins) carries a family of six to eight comfortably. Cap II (77 ft, four en-suite cabins, full air-conditioning) is built for up to ten and is the usual choice for a multi-generation week. We advise based on the ages and numbers in your party.

What is there for teenagers to do?

Paddleboards aboard, the chance to take the helm and actually sail the boat, snorkelling on the reefs, and the kitesurfing scene off Union Island. Teenagers tend to take to a crewed charter quickly — there is independence in it, and real sailing if they want it.

When should we book a family charter?

December through July is the season. School holiday weeks — Christmas, February half-term, Easter, and summer — book out early and should be planned well ahead. Term-time weeks and the quieter May-to-July shoulder are easier to secure at shorter notice.

Tell us the ages and numbers in your party and your dates, and we will recommend the right yacht and shape a week the whole family will remember. A proposal follows within one working day.
