The route

Marina Puerto Bahía to Las Galeras, by sail

Seven days around the Samaná Bay, where the trade winds blow steady and the sun is dependable. We slip out of the protected lagoon of Marina Puerto Bahía at first light, anchor over the the bay reef at Bahía de San Lorenzo, cross to the white sand and turtles of Cayo Levantado, work the leeward coast through Playa Playa Rincón and Playa Rincón, then call at UNESCO-listed Santa Bárbara de Samaná before the longer reach east to Las Galeras.

Every week is shaped around the guests aboard. The route above is our most-requested but it bends — quieter weeks stay among the leeward beaches and the Los Haitises sea cave, livelier weeks push on to Las Galeras National Marine Park or the longer down-island run to Las Galeras. Your captain finalises with you on day one over coffee in the cockpit.

A week at sea

The signature seven-night Samaná route. Days bend around weather and what the guests want — but this is the rhythm.

  1. Step 1

    Day 1

    Boarding · Marina Puerto Bahía

Fly into Samaná El Catey International Airport (El Catey), private transfer to Marina Puerto Bahía, board the same day. Provisioning done, captain's briefing, dinner aboard at anchor in the lagoon.

  2. Step 2

    Day 2

Bahía de San Lorenzo & the Tugboat

Short reach to Bahía de San Lorenzo. Snorkel the shallow the bay reef, swim off the boat, lunch at anchor, an afternoon along the calm leeward shore.

  3. Step 3

    Day 3

    Cayo Levantado

Cross to the uninhabited island offshore — white sand, the old lighthouse, sea-turtle snorkelling, and the wrecks on the windward side. The signature day of the week.

  4. Step 4

    Day 4

Playa Playa Rincón & Playa Rincón

Up the leeward coast to Playa Rincón's double reef and the powder sand of Playa Rincón — a snorkel over coral, lunch on deck facing the beach.

  5. Step 5

    Day 5

Playa Frontón & the Los Haitises

Reach to the north-west tip — Playa Rincón and Kalki, the Los Haitises sea cave, the Los Haitises mangroves dive site below Los Haitises National Park.

  6. Step 6

    Day 6

    Santa Bárbara de Samaná

Into the UNESCO capital — anchor off the Handelskade waterfront, the Queen Emma floating bridge, the floating market, and an evening ashore in Las Terrenas.

  7. Step 7

    Day 7

Santa Bárbara de Samaná → Marina Puerto Bahía

Morning passage back down the coast, last lunch at anchor, disembark on Marina Puerto Bahía in the late afternoon. (Extend the week east to Las Galeras on request.)

Quick answers

+What's included in the price?

The yacht, the three crew (captain, chef, deckhand), fuel for the seven nights, every mooring and harbour due, full provisioning of fresh food, all soft drinks aboard, snorkelling gear, and paddleboards. Wine, champagne, restaurant dinners ashore, and special menu requests are quoted at end-of-charter cost.

+Where do we join the yacht?

Most parties fly into Samaná El Catey International Airport (El Catey, AZS) — direct connections from Amsterdam, Miami, New York, Toronto, and across Latin America. We arrange a private transfer for the twenty-five-minute drive to Marina Puerto Bahía, and boarding the same day is the norm.

+Can we shape our own route?

Yes. The Marina Puerto Bahía → Bahía de San Lorenzo → Cayo Levantado → leeward beaches → Santa Bárbara de Samaná route is the most-requested, but every week is built around the guests aboard. Some weeks push east to Las Galeras and its marine park, or the longer down-island run to Las Galeras. The captain finalises with you on day one.

+How many guests?

Both yachts carry up to 10 guests. Flying Wing has three guest cabins (best for 6–8 guests sleeping aboard), Cap II has four en-suite cabins (comfortable for 10).

+What's the best time of year?

Any time. Samaná sits in our winter sailing season, so we sail reliably all year — there is the season runs December through May. The trade winds blow steady and the arid climate keeps rainfall low whatever the month, so the season never closes.

+Is there a deposit at enquiry?

No deposit is taken at enquiry. We hold the week for 48 hours while you confirm with your party. Deposit (typically 50%) is required only when the booking is confirmed; balance due 30 days before departure.
