Best time to sail

Year-round. The leeward run and the coves are calm most of the year; the Blue Room is best entered on a settled day, and Mt Christoffel is clearest early on a dry-season morning.

Westpunt is the far north-west tip of Curaçao, the wild and beautiful end of the leeward coast and home to the island's finest beaches and dive sites. It is a long, glorious sail up the coast from the base — past Porto Mari and the leeward coves — to a corner of the island that feels remote: dramatic cliffs, hidden coves of perfect sand, and clear deep water that ranks among the best snorkelling and diving in the Caribbean.

The beaches are the headline. Playa Knip — Grote Knip — is a broad arc of white sand and astonishing turquoise water set in a cliff-rimmed bay, the most photographed beach on the island, with its smaller twin Kleine Knip alongside. Further round is Playa Kalki, a cliff-backed cove that is the gateway to the area's diving. Just offshore lies the Blue Room, a half-submerged sea cave you swim into where the sunlight filtering through the underwater entrance lights the whole chamber an electric blue. And along the coast is Mushroom Forest, a celebrated dive site named for its mushroom-shaped coral heads.

Above the coast rises Christoffel National Park and Mt Christoffel — Christoffelberg — the island's highest point, an arid wilderness of cactus, divi-divi trees, and wildlife. Westpunt is the big day on a charter: the best beaches, the Blue Room cave, the diving, and the long, fast sail back down the leeward coast on the afternoon trades.

Anchorages

Playa Knip (Grote Knip)

The signature anchorage — a broad arc of white sand and turquoise water in a cliff-rimmed bay, the most beautiful beach on the island. Calm leeward water for a swim ashore and lunch on deck.

Playa Kalki

A cliff-backed cove at the north-west tip — the gateway to the area's diving, with clear deep water and a reef wall close in. A short reach from the Blue Room and Mushroom Forest.

Blue Room cave

Off the coast near Westpunt — a half-submerged sea cave you swim or tender into, the light through the underwater entrance turning the chamber electric blue. A settled-water stop on a calm day.

Ashore

The Blue Room

A half-submerged sea cave reached by a short swim or tender — duck under the rock and surface inside a chamber lit electric blue by sunlight coming through the underwater entrance. Unforgettable.

Mushroom Forest

The celebrated dive site named for its mushroom-shaped coral heads — clear water, abundant fish, and some of the best diving in the Caribbean. Arranged in advance with a local dive operator from the boat.

Christoffel National Park

The arid wilderness above the coast — cactus, divi-divi trees, wildlife, and the trail up Mt Christoffel, the island's highest point, for the long view over the whole of Curaçao. A morning ashore by arrangement.
