Aboard

Cap II · Flying Wing

Samaná is the most rewarding winter cruising ground in the northern Caribbean — a long, sheltered bay opening east into the Atlantic on the north-east coast of the Dominican Republic, with the karst-mangrove wilderness of Los Haitises National Park along its southern shore and the wild beaches of the peninsula along its north. Our signature week starts and ends at Marina Puerto Bahía, the full-service marina at Santa Bárbara de Samaná, and works the whole bay from the palm-fringed sand of Cayo Levantado to the cliff-backed remoteness of Playa Frontón — with the karst mogotes and Taíno caves of Los Haitises as the centrepiece.

The classic route runs Marina Puerto Bahía → Cayo Levantado → Bahía de San Lorenzo and Los Haitises → Las Galeras and Playa Rincón → Playa Frontón → back to the marina, with a shore day for the El Limón waterfall (forty-metre cascade, horseback or hike). Days bend around weather, the tide in the mangroves, and where the guests want to be. Quieter weeks linger at Cayo Levantado and Playa Rincón; livelier weeks add a long day deep into Los Haitises and a night ashore at Las Terrenas. The captain finalises on day one over coffee in the cockpit.

Charter rates start at $11,750 all-inclusive aboard Flying Wing for a party of up to eight guests. Cap II — the 77 ft flagship — is available for the week from $32,500 for parties of up to ten. Both rates include the yacht, crew, fuel, mooring, marina fees, and full provisioning. The permitted whale-watching transfer (in season), restaurant reservations in Las Terrenas, and the El Limón shore excursion are arranged on request.

Highlights of this charter

The whole bay in seven days

Cayo Levantado, Los Haitises, Playa Rincón, Las Galeras, and Playa Frontón — all within a comfortable day-sail of each other, all reachable without a long passage, on a four-month winter season at the heart of the humpback calving grounds.

Los Haitises National Park

The heart of the week. Karst limestone mogotes rising straight out of the sea, mangrove channels, sea caves with pre-Columbian Taíno petroglyphs, and more than two hundred bird species. Genuinely unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.

Cayo Levantado and Playa Rincón

Cayo Levantado — "Bacardi Island" — four miles from the marina, palm-fringed white sand, the easy first-day anchor. Playa Rincón, near Las Galeras, frequently called one of the Caribbean's best beaches: long, undeveloped, palm-backed.

All-inclusive — no surprise extras

Yacht, crew, fuel, mooring, marina fees at Puerto Bahía, full provisioning. The permitted whale-watching transfer (in season), restaurant nights ashore, and the El Limón shore excursion are billed at end-of-charter cost.

Local captains

Our captains have run Samaná Bay for years — they know the marina, the mangrove channels into Los Haitises, the bay-mouth anchorages, and the weather windows that turn one day into another.

Truly private

Your party, your boat, your week. No shared groups, no fixed itinerary — every day is shaped on the morning of, around weather, tides into the mangroves, and what the guests want.

All-inclusive

The yacht, the crew, the food, the wine, the marina fees, the mooring, the customs. The permitted whale-watching transfer, restaurant bills ashore in Las Terrenas, and the El Limón excursion are billed at end-of-charter cost.

Before you enquire

Where do we join the yacht?

Marina Puerto Bahía, on the north shore of Samaná Bay at Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Most guests fly into Samaná El Catey International (AZS) — direct from Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, and Paris-Orly — and we arrange a private transfer to the marina, about forty-five minutes by road. US guests typically connect via Santo Domingo (SDQ, ~2.5 hr drive) or Puerto Plata (POP, ~3 hr drive). Boarding the same day is the norm.

How is the route shaped?

The standard week runs Marina Puerto Bahía → Cayo Levantado → Bahía de San Lorenzo and Los Haitises → Las Galeras and Playa Rincón → Playa Frontón → back to the marina, with a shore day for the El Limón waterfall. Order changes with weather, mangrove tides, and — in season — where the whales are working the bay. Guests have full input on which anchorages and how long.

Is the food onboard?

Yes — three meals a day, prepared by our chef, drawn from what we provision at Puerto Bahía and Las Terrenas and what we catch underway. Expect Dominican coastal cooking with French and Italian influences from the Las Terrenas markets — local fish, plantain, fresh fruit. A restaurant night ashore in Las Terrenas or at the marina's Bannister Hotel is scheduled into the week on request.

Are dinner reservations included?

We arrange them as part of the charter coordination at no extra cost — restaurant bills ashore are billed at end-of-charter cost. Tables in Las Terrenas or at the marina's Bannister Hotel need a few days' notice in peak whale season.

Samaná weeks run December 1 through May 15 — a four-month winter season — and the calendar fills fast in whale-peak January through March. Tell us your dates and party size, and we will hold the boat while we shape the rest.
