Aboard
Cap II · Flying Wing
Samaná is the most rewarding winter cruising ground in the northern Caribbean — a long, sheltered bay opening east into the Atlantic on the north-east coast of the Dominican Republic, with the karst-mangrove wilderness of Los Haitises National Park along its southern shore and the wild beaches of the peninsula along its north. From December through mid-May the fleet operates from Marina Puerto Bahía at Santa Bárbara de Samaná, with everything worth sailing to within a comfortable day's reach: Cayo Levantado (~4 nm), Bahía de San Lorenzo and Los Haitises (~11–12 nm), Las Galeras (~12 nm), Playa Rincón (~14 nm), and Playa Frontón (~15 nm).
From Marina Puerto Bahía we operate three classic sailing yachts — Cap II, a 77-foot CNB flagship, Flying Wing, a 75-foot sister yacht, and SISU, a 37-foot day-sailing yacht. All vessels are commercially surveyed, fully insured, and privately operated by their captains. Every charter is crewed, private, and shaped around the guests aboard.
Charter options are built around the length of stay and the yacht. Aboard Flying Wing — our competitively-priced 75 ft classic — single-day charters start at $1,595 and week-long voyages around Samaná Bay start from $11,750 all-inclusive. Aboard Cap II, the 77 ft CNB flagship, private day charters start at $2,950 and weeks from $32,500 — reserved for small parties who prefer the flagship. Aboard SISU, half-day sails start at $595 and full-day at $1,195. All rates include the yacht, crew, fuel, mooring, and full provisioning.
Highlights of this charter
Marina Puerto Bahía, our home base
A full-service marina on the north shore of Samaná Bay — 107 slips up to 150 ft LOA, customs and immigration on site, fuel and water at the dock, and the boutique Bannister Hotel above with restaurants, infinity pools, and a spa. The most polished base in the Dominican Republic.
Three yachts, one home base
Cap II, Flying Wing, and SISU are all kept at Marina Puerto Bahía through the season — never sub-chartered out of region. The yacht you book is the yacht you sail.
The whole bay within a day
Cayo Levantado (4 nm), Bahía de San Lorenzo (10 nm), Los Haitises (12 nm), Las Galeras (12 nm), Playa Rincón (14 nm), and Playa Frontón (15 nm) — all accessible as day or overnight charters from the marina.
Humpback whales in season
From mid-January through the end of March, two to three thousand North Atlantic humpbacks return to Samaná Bay to court, mate, and calve. We sail a four-month season from December 1 through May 15, with the whales at peak for ten weeks of it.

Before you enquire
How do I get to the boat?
Most international guests fly into Samaná El Catey International (AZS) — direct from Montreal (Air Canada year-round), Toronto (Air Canada seasonal), Quebec City (Air Transat), and Paris-Orly (Air Caraïbes) — and we arrange a private transfer to Marina Puerto Bahía, about forty-five minutes by road. There are no direct US flights to AZS; US guests typically connect via Santo Domingo (SDQ, ~2.5 hr drive) or Puerto Plata (POP, ~3 hr drive). Boarding the same day is the norm.
Are charters all-inclusive?
Yes. The published rate covers the yacht, crew, fuel, mooring fees, and full provisioning of fresh food and drinks throughout the charter. Optional add-ons (chef's tasting menus, special wine selections, the permitted whale-watching transfer, the El Limón shore excursion) are quoted separately.
What's the best time of year?
We sail Samaná from December 1 through May 15 — a four-month winter season at the heart of the humpback calving grounds. Peak whale presence runs January 15 through March 31, and that is the marquee window. December and the first half of May are shoulder weeks — quieter on the water, with whales arriving or thinning out. We are closed June through November during Atlantic hurricane season.
Can we see the humpback whales?
In season, yes. From mid-January through the end of March, two to three thousand North Atlantic humpbacks return to Samaná Bay to court, mate, calve, and nurse. From the yacht we cruise the bay and the approaches to Los Haitises, where whales are frequently visible from deck. For the close approach, guests transfer to a permitted whale-watching boat operated by one of the 46 ASDUBAHISA / Ministry of Environment authorized operators — we coordinate the transfer.
